REAP Battery has delivered a 500 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) — a system that stores energy so it can be used later — in Azerbaijan. It helps keep the grid stable and makes better use of renewable energy. The system uses LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cells, a safe and long-life battery chemistry.
Project Scope and Engineering
The system is made up of standard 20-foot shipping containers, each holding a complete battery system. Inside every container are the LFP battery cells, a battery management system (BMS) that keeps the battery running safely, a thermal management system that keeps it at the right temperature, and a fire suppression module for added safety. Because the design is container-based, the project can be delivered in stages and assembled on site quickly.
Together, the containers provide a total of 500 MWh of storage, using LFP cells rated for 6,000+ charge cycles. The BMS watches over the system to keep it running safely and reliably.
Grid Impact and Renewable Integration
As Azerbaijan adds more solar and wind power, large-scale storage helps the people who run the grid handle the ups and downs of this kind of energy. The 500 MWh REAP system stores energy when demand is low and releases it when demand is high — keeping the grid stable and making the most of renewable energy.
The project supports Azerbaijan's renewable energy and grid stability goals, and adds to REAP Battery's growing list of large-scale storage projects.
